DeMystifying Color: No More Muddy Color!
Saturday, February 20, 1 PM - 4 PM

Are you confused and frustrated with trying to mix colors?

Do you have a different palette for every teacher you have studied with?

Dozens of tubes of paint you don't like or don't use? Are you tired of searching through dozens of tubes of paint to find just the right color?

Are you forced to use colors straight out of the tubes, with the resulting harsh, amateur colors ruining your paintings?

Do you wind up with muddy colors and boring paintings?

Do you dream of being able to have your paintings sing with luscious, glowing color? With subtle luminous neutrals and natural flesh tones?

This class will REMOVE ALL MYSTERY surrounding color.

When you understand HOW to mix color and WHY, you will be able to achieve luscious, glowing colors, and luminous greys and flesh tones. You'll learn which colors serve you best and which to remove from your palette.

Ann Bell's Demystifying Color Class provides the answers.

Saturday February 20, 1 - 4 PM

8. How to rescue a muddy painting

11. How to add bright color to a wet area without making blooms

You'll reinforce what you learn by actually painting with the best color choices.

You'll see and understand. If you don't understand, or you have questions, I'll provide help right away.

All confusion will disappear. Mixing color won't be a mystery any longer.

This class is helpful to all painters--from beginner to expert.
Color is the first thing the viewer sees in a painting, yet specific color information is seldom taught.

This class will remove all mystery about color, through the use of

  • Charts

  • Demonstrations

  • Hands-on exercises,

  • Answers to all your questions

  • Clear written explanation for you to refer to when questions arise

  • Hands on practice while the information is fresh in your mind.

Please bring your lunch.

I'll begin with demonstrations. You'll see, learn (and understand)

  • How to mix for vibrant color

  • How the way you apply color affects its luminosity

  • How do determine whether paint is transparent or opaque

  • How to choose color schemes based on the mood you want to convey

  • How to mix wonderfully luminous neutrals

  • How to make any color less intense

  • How to mix natural greens

Then you'll paint. Ill give you a palette to use, with the best color choices.

IF you want my help with your palette, please bring it. It's important to have colors that work well together.
Each artist you've ever studied with probably provided a list of suggested (or required) colors.
If you'have selected the colors you like best from each list, or even the ones that appeared most often,
you may have colors that simply don't work well together.

If you have a muddy painting that you want to rescue, feel free to bring it.

I'll share my knowledge about color, my wondrous, light-filled studio, and the music that inspires me.

I'll make color really simple...easy to understand. That's why I call this class "demystifying color."

Only $75. for the class,
including the use of my watercolor or acrylic paint, paper and brushes.
You do not need to bring anything. I supply everything.
Of course, you may bring your palette, if you prefer.

Demonstrations will be in watercolor. You may do the exercises in watercolor OR acrylic, as you prefer.
All of the color information is equally applicable to acrylic and oil.
