Varied Methods of Teaching Art
Private art lessons are the best way for adults to learn to paint. Art opens the gates of creativity for everyone, including suppressed artists, aspiring artists, people who can’t draw a straight line, and people who think they are not creative. Not to mention people who think they have no talent and people whose sibling(s) got all the talent. Even for people who never thought they would want to paint, but now discover that they do.
If you wish you could paint or dream of being able to paint, private art classes with me can make your dream come true.
If you decide to become my student, I will teach you exactly what you want to learn.
Painting is fun! And it’s an excellent stress-reliever. It makes you more creative and better able to meet daily challenges, whether in life, home, work, or your own business.
I empower people to paint quickly. I want the process to be fun. Fun is the magic ingredient that removes the stress, by allowing the child inside to come out and play.
Drawing skills take time to develop. If you want to learn drawing, I can recommend a teacher.
If you want to learn painting, consider choosing me as your teacher. You will be mixing colors in the first lesson. I will show you easy, intuitive ways of applying paint for wondrous results. Applying beautiful color to paper or canvas in a painterly, graceful way instantly yields beautiful results. De tails can be added with collage elements.
If you want to learn to paint, and you want an inspiring teacher who will move you forward quickly, call me and treat yourself to a private painting lesson.
I suggest that you plan to take 3 or 4 lessons, but I don’t require you to schedule them or to commit in advance. After 4 private painting classes, you can expect to feel comfortable painting at home. You will know how to mix your colors and how to paint the kinds of things you expressed interest in. If you attempt more complex subjects you will be able to begin and paint. If you want more classes, fine.
My interest is in painting and helping others to explore their creativity. I do not want the same students coming to me for years because they don’t feel confident enough to paint by themselves. If I am your teacher, you will feel confident to paint by yourself very soon. If you have new things you want to explore and learn, I am happy to have you continue.
If you want to paint in a room with others, my Wednesday afternoon Creativity Clinics may be the answer. I welcome artists (at any level) into my wondrous light-filled studio on Wednesdays, 1- 3 PM, to paint and enjoy the inspiring music I play to encourage my muse. I do not provide instruction, but I am happy to answer questions and provide incidental help as requested. I paint during this time, so you may choose to observe me,
Take the first step. Let’s schedule your first private lesson with me in my wondrous, light-filled studio.
Unless you specifically request something different, we will being with an understanding of color. I will show you how to mix a wide range of colors using ony the primary red, yellow, and blue.
Although I began my career painting with oils, I became alergic to the solvents. Now I work exclusively with water-soluble paint including watercolor, acrylic, and gouache. I also have a wide variety of other tools, such as colored pencils, oil pastels, stencils, hand-carved stamps, etc that I am happy to share with my students.
By the way, I do not paint on your painting. In the beginning, I demonstrate and then you paint. Whenever you have questions, I answer verbally, including instructions for doing what you want to do AND instant feedback. If you want me to show you, I am happy to show you on my own paper. This allows your painting to remain completely yours.
When someone else paints on your painting, no matter how beautifully they paint, the painting is ruined. It looks like 2 different people painted on it. It looks WRONG. EVEN if you and the other person both paint beautifully. And your painting is no longer yours.
I find that 90 minutes is the perfect length for a private lesson. You will learn more than you would in 3 classes. You will learn exactly what you need to know, using less of your valuable time, fewer trips and less cost.
Of course, if you want private help to complete a project and prefer a longer class, we can work longer, up to 3 or 4 hours.
For more information or to schedule your class, call me at 281 - 330 - 3827.
Your first class includes the use of my paints and brushes. If you already have supplies, please bring them so I can see what you have. The age range of my students is from teens to seventies. It is never too early or too late to begin.
