Waterlilies are one of my favorite flowers.

I have spent many happy days wandering around at Lilypons Water Gardens. I was sad when they closed their facility at Brookshire. Now we go to Nelson's Water Gardens, which has equally beautiful waterlilies, but fewer of them.

On one of our early trips to Lilypons, my husband bought me 4 small Shubunkins and some aerating grasses. I made a home for them in a galvanized tub in a shaded area of my garden. To my dismay, the water promptly turned green. The fish did not seem to mind, but I did.

That fall, I abandoned the idea of a fish pond in the garden. For my birthday, my dear husband gave me a twenty gallon aquarium complete with filter and circulating water pump. We installed it on the kitchen counter and brought the fish inside.

Several generations of fish later and in a different home, we still enjoy the beautiful fan-tailed fish in our kitchen.
