This painting was inspired by the bright sun
breaking through the clouds and making its wondrous mark on a craggy pine trunk, just
after a spring rainstorm. I was walking in my neighborhood when I observed this miracle,
which became the subject for my "Breakthrough" painting. Juror Doug Lew liked
the painting well enough that he accepted it into the Fall Membership Show of Watercolor
Art Society-Houston in October, 2003 and he gave it an Honorable Mention award.
Juror Catherine Anderson accepted "Breakthrough" into the
California Watercolor Association 37th National Exhibition. It was on display at the
Academy of Art University Gallery, 410 Bush Street, San Francisco, CA., during the CWA
Exhibition in April, 2005. This painting represents a significant breakthrough in my own
artistic growth.
I proudly display "Breakthrough" on my business card and on the front of
my brochure.
